When we talk about the kickpoint on a hockey stick, we're referring to where the stick flexes the most when you lean into it. There are three main types of kickpoints, each offering unique benefits to suit different playing styles.
Low Kickpoint
A low kickpoint stick flexes more toward the blade. This design creates a quick pop, releasing the puck faster than any other kickpoint. It's typically used by fast forwards who need to maneuver around defensemen and get a quick, hard snapshot on net—often aiming for that satisfying bardown shot.
Low kick models include: Bauer Vapor, CCM Ribcor, Shjerwood Rekker, Blackout Extra Lit, TRUE Project X, Warrior Covert
Mid Kickpoint
The mid kickpoint is your power stick. This style loads up energy when you flex it, resulting in a slower release but with a ton of power behind your shot. It's ideal for full wrist shots and slapshots, making it popular among defensemen or grinder forwards who really lean into their shots.
Mid kick models include: CCM Tacks, Bauer Supreme, STX HPR, TRUE Catalyst, Warrior Novium
Hybrid Kickpoint
Lastly, the hybrid kickpoint offers the best of both worlds, making it a great choice for two-way players. The flex point of this stick depends on your lower hand placement. If your hand is lower on the shaft and you take a snapshot, the stick will adjust to give you a quick release. Conversely, if you load up for a slapshot or full wrist shot, it will tailor the flex point to that style, providing a powerful shot.
Hybrid kick models include: CCM Jetspeed, Bauer Nexus, Pro Blackout, Warrior Alpha, STX surgeon, Sherwood Code
